- [Elon] Well, we're definitely going to be improving our supercharge technology. The thing about a 350 kilowatt charger is it doesn't actually make a ton of sense. Unless you got a monster vacuum pack, or have like a crazy high C rating, in which case your energy density's gonna be high, so it's kinda complicated. We think maybe 200, also at 350 kilowatts for a single car, that's really pretty, you're gonna break your battery pack if you do that. You can not charge a high energy battery pack at that rate, unless it's a very high kilowatt battery pack.
So, something along the, I think a couple hundred, 250 maybe. - [Galileo] Yeah, that's definitely sort of the level that we've discussed and explored and some of it also comes down to optimization around utility versus cost and trade-offs in the car itself. You kinda hinted at that, Elon, but there is a trade-off fundamentally between charge speed and essentially range, or cost of battery, and we look at that pretty carefully. We understand the trade-off and we could design cells and a pack that could charge faster than 300, 400 kilowatts but it's not a very useful tradeoff to the customer https://casinoslots-ie.com/casino-games. - [Elon] Yeah, that's why we understand the difference between energy and power, really. Energy's great, and mastering the range, and power's kinda your peak acceleration, basically. The rate at which you consume energy, so, really it's more important to have a long range than it is to have a super fast charge time. And you can sort of think about this in the devices that you use. Would you rather have a cell phone that lasted two hours but it could charge in five minutes, or ten minutes, let's say, but it only lasted two hours. Or would you like a cell phone that could last two days and maybe six hours to charge? - [Moderator] Thank you. - [Elon] We'll keep going with questions while they're interesting. - I kept that last bit in there because I just love there were a couple times in there when the moderator, or the person keeping the questions going, tried to cut Elon off, or move on to the next person, but Elon was just loving the line of questioning so much, that he said no. Obviously, he can do that when you own the company. So, amazing stuff there. Now, it makes a lot of sense to me. I do think that there's probably some improvements we can make on the supercharger network, I am interested in how Porsche's gonna handle this, I don't know if you've actually seen the stuff in real life yet, but if and when you do, I think it will be very interesting. Okay, I've got one more clip, and I'm gonna talk about Tesla's priorities here. And this was interesting, the question was related to their priorities, but this is kinda what it came to be. So I had a couple slides, and I'll show it to you after the fact, so let's go to the clip of Elon talking about, the way I'm digesting, consuming this, is that these are Tesla getting their priorities straight. So, let's go on to that now. - [Galileo] With the Tesla Semi, how many reservations do you guys now have, approximately, and where are you in the process as far as the development and roll-out of the first model in terms of timeline, when you guys expect that to happen, et cetera? - [Elon] I actually don't know how many reservations we have for the Semi, about two thousand. We haven't really tried to sell the Semi. It's not like there's ongoing sales of it, so sales, orders for the Semi are like, opportunistic. Companies reaching out. And my focus is on the Model 3, we need to get that to about 5,000 a week, that's at a good margin, we need to be a profitable company, that is a good criticism that has been leveled at Tesla and a good one, it's high time we became profitable, and the truth is, you're not a real company until you are, frankly. So that's our focus right now, and we've got an awesome product, the Semi's one of those things. And we've got a really good idea for the Model Y. The Model Y's gonna be amazing, I'm really excited about that, Tesla pickup's gonna be great, so we have like, way more cool things than we know what to do, like the idea generation for products is devoted to execution, so we just need to stay focused enough, divide our attention on too many products at one time. - Yeah, I love that last part there. And so yeah, the question I believe was about the Semi orders which I heard JB whisper to Elon, but it was over 2000. I know publicly we've only heard about 700, so that's a pretty big deal. Here are kind of what I gleaned from that that the first priority was Model 3, next, becoming profitable, which I think a lot of people really happy to hear that. And the fact that Elon said you're not a real company until you're profitable, interesting to me. So I guess that means to me, Amazon isn't profitable? Or, I don't know, it's kinda nuts. Also, Tesla has shown a profit in the past, so we'll see, it kinda comes and goes. If you guys didn't know that yet. So, anyways, then Model Y makes a lot of sense. Semi is kinda in the same regard. And then, it's just kinda other. Roadster'll be in there, the pickup he mentioned will be great, I think that is going to be, wow. I mean, Model Y's just crossover SUV, and that is the largest-selling car size in the US. There you go. You also have pickups, which are ginormous, and once you start eating into those, these other automakers are really going to be in a pickle, because unless they're already working on an electric truck or an electric crossover SUV, which we haven't really seen, and they still, it seems, publicly anyways, that they don't really want to support this movement, that's gonna be a real dangerous time for them. So, very curious to see kind of how this shakes out in the future, but I just loved how he kinda broke that down and really reiterated that they needed to stay focused.
